A LESSON IN HISTORY --DO NOT TOUCH
tcchelsey23 April 2023
Tim the newsman and historian is doing some research on the sale of Manhattan in the 1600s. Guess what happens? A recurring gag on the series had him fiddling with one of Uncle Martin's revolutionary gizmos, this one called a CCTBS machine. He goes through a time warp and messes up the sale. Translation: New York is now NOT part of the United States, all thanks to him! It's up to Uncle Martin to fix everything, and back they go to the 1600s to set the record straight. This is a very funny and clever story, written by Burt Styler (THE BRADY BUNCH) who also came up with some hilarious characters. Herb Ellis, a familiar actor on cop shows, dons Indian headgear and becomes Chief Buffalo, the lead negotiator in the land sale. He also has a daughter called Little Feather (played by a young Shelly Morrison) who has a crush on Tim, further complicating matters. Veteran actor Leon Askin is also in the cast as Peter Minuit. Ellis, to note, was long associated with actor and producer Jack Webb and was the co-creator of DRAGNET. Not too long after this episode, he and Webb created the new Dragnet series, called DRAGNET 1967. He also appeared on PATTY DUKE and GIDGET at this time. Shelly Morrison, of course, went onto fame in later years as Rosario, the maid on WILL AND GRACE. Something for everybody here, and teachers may even appreciate the lopsided history lesson! Also check out the sets and costumes. Always a treat. SEASON 3 EPISODE 32 dvd box set.
