Why did Ben and Charlene zero in on these killers in the first place

Warning: Spoilers
I'm doing a rewatch of this show after not seeing it for over 30 years. It's on Pluto TV. The episodes appear to be out of order though. This is ok I suppose since I believe they're all one-offs. No arcs. The two-parters are all together from what I can tell. *edit: the two-parters are not all together. Some are missing one of the parts. So watch out for that and probably skip it if you are watching the series over there.

This episode is pretty good. The girls thought they had the perfect murder plot. They were meticulous. They kill their aunt and frame their uncle for it. Julia seems to be a psychopath. Diane is too, given how she laughs at things and is also a little emotionally crazy.

Ben is funny as he doesn't really want to take the case. He finds Harold(the uncle) boring and annoying. But feels guilty when talking to Harold. Love his woebegone expression. Lol.

I think a slight weakness for me is why Ben and Charlene zero in on the girls in the first place, to begin with. Especially given there was no motive and they appeared to have a solid alibi. I didn't see that magic moment of them thinking they did it. It was just kind of torpedoing on them right away. The only thing was when Charlene pretended to be one of them in the library scenario. But why, is the problem, given they have what appears to be a solid alibi? And they're not twins. This scene happened almost right away.

Also, the demonstration wasn't even filmed or anything. You know, to show the jury in the court as the librarian was being questioned. But she wasn't even shown taking the stand. In fact, there weren't any setbacks in court like in previous episodes. It was smooth sailing. It would have been interesting I think if Ben and the gang were more stumped on how they did it. There were apparently quite a few people in the library, but no one was questioned. Then they wrote the girls as playing that scary "prank" on Charlene. I'm like, but they're making it so obvious they are the killers.

How did Ben know that Julia had been lying to Diane about how their parents died? This was a key moment when Diane was on the stand. Yet we don't even know where on earth did Ben get that idea in his head.

Anyway, a pretty good episode in many ways. A bit weak in following through. It's a lightheaded show. So there are plotholes. 7/10.

Are Julia and Emily suppose to be twins?

I love this episode! At the beginning of the show, you see a picture of the sisters as children, and they look as though they are not twins. Then, as young ladies, they look very similar, as though they are twins. The two actresses are not related in real life, but the casting crew did a good job picking them out. Also, the make-up and hairstyling crews did a good job making them look alike. Linda Purl as Charlene Matlock, who is 2 inches taller than Gail O'Grady, dresses up like the girls, looks very similar to them. Gail O'Grady was about 23 at the time, but Diane Behrens' birthday is not given. Then, four years later, Gail O'Grady appears as Julia McCullough again in the episode, The Kidnapper (1990), and she does not look like she has aged a bit.
