Sad ending
KrystelClaire19 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
It's not that I didn't like this episode: all the parents are delirious, each one in their own way. I laughed about it, and it's become one of my favourite with time.

Larry and the "adventure" with the cake is good fun, though a bit predictable.

However, I think it's sad that Robin can't marry Chrissy in the end. I thought he was going to wreck the wedding at the court somehow and that he would run away with her, but nothing of that sort happened, which was really disappointing for me. Even the kiss in the middle of the reception, in front of all the speechless guests, shows that they have a chemistry between them, a certain kind of love and much more communication that Chrissy has (or ever will have) with Norman.

I don't understand why the script-writers didn't end the series with a happy ending which would have left me much more merry and interested.

All good things...

Warning: Spoilers
Robin recovers from his heartbreak at losing Chrissy and makes the cake for her and Norman's wedding. Unfortunately, when drunk, he and Larry demolish it. On the morning of the wedding, Robin is forced to improvise a new cake - by icing two jam sponges together. The Ropers are invited, but George is not keen to go as he has a darts match at the British Legion lined up. Mildred puts her foot down...

Some good continuity here; Robin's parents are played by Leslie Sands and Hilda Kriseman, while Chrissy's are played by Glynn Edwards and Daphne Oxenford, all of whom have appeared in these roles before.

I was at school when 'House' was first on and, when it was announced that the show would be ending, there was much speculation as to what would happen in the last episode. The general consensus seemed to be that Robin would marry Chrissy. As you can probably imagine, the ending that was televised was not well-received. That the free-spirited and usually intelligent Chrissy could prefer Norman to Robin beggared belief. It would have been akin to 'Margo Leadbetter' of 'The Good Life' eloping with Bill Maynard's 'Selwyn Froggitt'. Even allowing for the fact that Paula Wilcox was not likely to be in 'Robin's Nest', it was a contrived and disappointing end to a fine series. Poor Chrissy. Destined to spend the rest of her days ironing Norman's shirts for cricket-club lunches.

As another reviewer has already commented, Robin and Chrissy's final kiss told the viewer what they knew already - these two were made for each other.

Funniest moment - Robin and Larry covering what they think is Norman's car with balloons, tin cans and 'Just Married' signs, only to then discover it is not Norman's car!

The words 'The End' flashed up over a group photo of the cast as the end titles rolled. It wasn't quite the end; Robin and the Ropers had spin-off series lined up, but for Chrissy, Jo and Larry, sadly their time really was up.
