So Long, Little Buddy!
Hitchcoc16 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Radar is on R & R and is trying to get back to the unit. While he is gone, the generator goes out and the backup has been stolen. Klinger is trying to do Radar's job and is having no success, especially in finding a replacement generator. Radar meets a young nurse in the airport and a little romantic thing seems to start. But then a plane comes and breaks up the little scene. Meanwhile, Potter creates a necessary machine to do suction. When Radar returns, he throws Klinger out and takes over (but has no success). But the big news is that Radar's Uncle Ed has died, leaving his mother alone. This means that Radar is going home.

The end of an era - Part 1
safenoe7 October 2020
A bittersweet moment. Gary Burghoff, who starred as Radar in the original MASH movie, and who continued with the role in the series, is about to leave. I can't remember the number of times I've watched this two-parter, and I never tire of watching it. I wonder what would have happened if Radar stayed on...farewell Klinger? Marilyn Jones starred as Patty, Radar's temporary love interest. Johnny Haymer reappears as Zale.

Great wrap to Radar
RNMorton29 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
As much as I thoroughly enjoyed the only other comment to this episode (about padding for 10 lines), I thought I'd throw this comment into the ring. I've written and rewritten my comment to the M*A*S*H TV show so many times they told me I can't edit it again or IMDb will excommunicate me. The short of my M*A*S*H review was that the show was great for about 5 or 6 years and then hit the wall, for all the reasons the other comment mentions - no real dramatic tension, too preachy and too smug and smarmy. If there is an episode that demarks the line into fatal mediocrity this is it (and this is most definitely on the good side of that line). Radar may have been a difficult guy to work with but so long as he wasn't overplayed he was an essential part of the show. His send off is as good as it gets, with particularly fine performances by Burghoff, Harry Morgan (bless his soul) and Marilyn Jones as a possible love interest for Radar. Great story, great script, great acting.

gary thought show got sappy
fireoffanemail27 June 2006
i always thought that post henry / trapper, show changed to something more maudlin, moralistic, preachy... mutual friend of gary's tells me this, in fact, led to his departure; i've never spoken to gary...

i also disliked hotlips being hawk's "buddy", all of a sudden... she became one of the guys

i do not have much more to say but, apparently, this feature requires 10 lines of text to post

in fact, the message i received when i tried to post was

"Your comment does not contain enough lines - the minimum length for comments is 10 lines of text. Please see the guidelines. Attempts to pad the comment with junk words can result in your account being blocked from future submissions"

my first and last submission (if it goes thru...)
