An immortal, Colonel Killian is after Mac. They know each other from WWI. Killian ordered his men to attack even though he received word the war was over and to cease hostilities. Mac was a witness against him in a court-martial. Killian was sentenced to death but Mac, knowing Killian can't die, stepped in to say he was insane, therefore Killian was sentenced to an insane asylum where he remained for 70 years. In the meantime, Amanda is trying to mend the fences between Joe and Mac with dinner at Joe's. When Mac doesn't show, Amanda befriends Melissa. A young woman who steals for thrills. After hanging with Amanda she wants to be just like her.
Mac ain't an easy guy to kidnap. He definitely doesn't make it easy for his kidnappers. Great job by Adrian Paul with his pained expression as he freed himself from the straight jacket.
Amanda: "Sometimes I worry about your overindulged sense of morality." Well, this made me chuckle. Seems even the writers were self-aware that Mac's moral judgments were a bit too much of Mac playing immortal police and being the boss of immortal justice.
The Melissa and Amanda stuff was kind of boring. Stealing is exciting to them? How about volunteering to help feed to the homeless or something. They came off as shallow. Tho, I know it was meant to help Amanda grow as a character. Other than that, I could care less about Melissa. It was funny though when Melissa changed her looks to look just like Amanda. The expression on Duncan's face was priceless.
Duncan: "I fought here against Napoleon and Louis the Fourteenth. I've seen men die for the same ground too many times to want to do it again." Where Mac use to be a warrior and soldier taking sides, he now serves as a medic, influenced by his mentor, Darius.
Remember in 1815 in 'Band of Brothers' :
Darius: "Napoleon may lose a campaign. Wellington may win a great victory. What have they really won or lost? Their reputation? These men have been robbed of their most precious possession, forever. You shouldn't be taking part in this tragedy.
Duncan: "I was raised a warrior. I choose battles I believe to be just."
Darius: "Oh, I'm sure. You're quite loyal to your convictions and compatriots. But I wonder what these men think about that, about convictions and compatriotism now?"
Glad they stayed consistent with Duncan's growth. Sometimes tho, his present-day zen mode is annoying when it also includes hypocrisy, judgments, and yes, even inaction.
I wanted Joe and Mac to resume their bromance. But yet again, Joe did indeed give Mac the upper hand by rescuing him. Did anybody else want to see Mac "Macgyver" his way out of that cell? I know I did. In fact, I think it would have been a lot cooler and fun if Mac had gotten out of there by himself.
I enjoyed the fight between Killian and Mac. With Killian above on some kind of ledge or balcony and Mac below with openings up top. That was actually kind of cool. I think this episode had the worse quickening in the series. Mac looked so stupid with those robotic movements.
Glad Joe and Mac made up. I think it was good for Amanda to see the consequences of her actions. I mean it wasn't her fault, but she was a kind of bad influence on Melissa, enabling the idea that stealing was fun and turning her into a fangirl. I gave the episode an 8/10.
