After finding his sister-in-law missing and her apartment ransacked, Hardcastle discovers that she had been secretly following her professor in hopes of earning extra credit in a police procedures course.
Trish Van Devere plays D. D. Drylinger, Milt's widowed sister-in-law, and she drives him crazy with her obsessive cleaning habits, and you can count the times Hardcastle rolls his eyes looking annoyed. But he still cares for her - when her place gets ransacked due to her surveillance project, he and McCormick are on the case to find out who did it, and there's a car chase and a rousing boat chase at the finale. I liked Drylinger's character - he's hilarious.
