The Bomb Shelter

Due to the Cold War, Howard wants to build a bomb shelter.

The last episode of Season 1 and a funny one. Ronnie Schell (Duke on "Gomer Pyle") plays the shelter salesman. Richie ends up promising Potsie and Ralph a spot in the shelter. Then Howard says there will be no room for them, Richie starts to lose his friends. There is a funny scene of a roped off area in back yard where the shelter will be built. Howard stands there by himself in his Civil Defense helmet.

With everything going on in Europe now, I recalled this rather poignant and bittersweet Happy Days episode where Howard wants to buy a bomb shelter just in case the Cold War from the 50s gets out of hand. All credit to the writers for coming up with Howard's line about to "live now than survive later."
