Ghostest with the mostest
xredgarnetx5 February 2007
Now this is some ghost! A woman who has died in the woods is using an electrical relay station to seek out her family. Her son sees her on TV screens. Melinda gets to see her apart from TV screens, where she appears to be so much static. It takes awhile to figure out the whys and wherefores of this one. The object here is to have the woman be reunited with a son who does not want the reunion due to a deep, dark family secret. John Jackson of JAG guest-stars as the woman's widower. It was a bit of a shock to see Jackson playing a befuddled dad, quite the opposite of the gung-ho admiral he played for 10 years on JAG. The ending is another one of those box-of-tissues jobs.

Not a Favorite of Mine

This episode does not come close to the quality of other first-year shows. It seems to be searching for a point, which it never achieves. The characters are not at all convincing, and the plot is not engaging. Probably the one dud episode of Season 1.

A troubled soul needs Melinda's help--as usual...
Doylenf21 September 2009
A mother who died accidentally in the woods, a troubled son who has a hard time communicating with his dad, and voices (Electronic Voice Phenomena or EVP) are trying to communicate with Melinda (JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT) who finds herself trying to determine what the ghost of the boy's mother wants her to do.

Hubby DAVE CONRAD has "a weird feeling" about his mom's boyfriend. You start wondering, where's that sub-plot going? Meanwhile, the boy just wants the voices to stop--he's hearing all the EVP because his mother is using her knowledge of electronics to communicate with him and Melinda.

Curious, as all of these "ghost stories" are, with nothing clearly revealed until the denouement. Nice performance from JOHN JACKSON as the boy's brusque father who admits only that the boy's mother died in the woods. "It was an accident," he tells Melinda.

Interesting episode from this series.
