Doing It For His Country

Warning: Spoilers
Ann Cameron (elegant Dana Wynter) is a KAOS agent who marries CONTROL agents, then kills them on their honeymoon and collects the insurance money. The Chief asks Max, whose wife 99 is very pregnant, to woo Cameron and help trap her.

This plot makes no sense at all. If Cameron KNOWS Max is a CONTROL agent and he KNOWS she is a KAOS agent and they both know she's been killing husbands, what's with all the pretend? They both know what's really going on.

However, a story full of holes is saved by some pretty lively comedy, first involving 99's jealousy, then Cameron and her partner Schroeder's (Peter Frank)attempt to do away with Max. Along the way Larabee gets most of the really good material (he expects a carnation in his lapel to fool Max as to his identity, he fails to turn on a tape recorder to get a confession) and the Chief's toupee also gets its usual laugh. 99 gets a good scene as she watches Max marry another woman and that other woman, Dana Wynter works well as a "Black widow", capable of seducing and then killing her husbands. Adams on the other hand seems to have had a hard time trying to balance his character's loyalty to 99 with this unexpected opportunity to seduce a beautiful woman for his country.

Although nowhere near as good as the best episodes of seasons one and two, this demonstrates the show still had some life left in it after a bad beginning to the season.
