This is one of those time warp episodes that take you back to a period of time when domestic violence was not taken seriously. We have a married couple who increasingly are hurting each other physically -- the wife calling it "therapeutic" during their first episode of violence where she threw a plate that lacerated his forehead & she has a bruise on her shoulder from a haymaker he threw. The boys are called out for the 2nd time that same day in which the hubby throws grease on the wife causing first degree burns while he has a fractured hand from no doubt hitting her yet again. Well, the boys are called out for the THIRD time the same day (sidenote: if he did have a fractured hand & she had first degree burns from hot grease, shouldn't they have been in the hospital?). Overlooking that fact, the hubby is now unconscious on the floor and she is in a complete state of disarray. Both now require transportation to the hospital. While the policeman on the scene simply walks away from this, she profoundly declares she now "hates him" & the response from Gage is "I think he got the message". No soap box here. When I watched this episode over 40 years ago, I recall thinking it was pretty funny & applauding the wife for fighting back. Its just an interesting window into an different era where domestic violence, similar to other serious issues like drunk driving, were not taken as seriously. 7/10.

Send Hemp! Alf's mom is in trouble!
desert_dilbert8 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Anne Schedeen, most notable for being the wife/mom of the family who hosted Alf while he was here on Earth, appears as an arguing wife in this episode.

Also interestingly enough, Dixie answers the phone as, "Miss McCall." Unbelievable. That woman is a 9 or 10, even at the age she appears on the show. She surely would be married. (In real life, she is.)

Again, hemp makes it's appearance in this episode. If it weren't for hemp, at least half of all Emergency! episodes would feature quite a few trapped folks. Maybe this is why cannabis is now fully legal in California.

Score: 2 episodes reviewed; 2 feature use of hemp.

Wonderful mid-seventies fashions in this show including a glossy chocolate colored leather jacket worn by a doctor about to head home.

Oh, and a basset hound (Henry) makes an appearance, giving the episode a touch of warmth and friendliness. Those firefighters and their dogs. Gee whiz!

Would I recommend this episode? If you're ironing or cooking or baking a long recipe, have this on. Watch it directly? I wouldn't.
