Very memorable, a classic.

The team are all eachother, all over nothing, an idea is had, tea for everyone's mums.

Many people when they recall Dinnerladies, I'm not sure I'd class this as the funniest episode, but it's perhaps the most memorable. We have the original comedy lineup, which is magnificent itself, but here we get the second wave, the seniors, each of them is terrific as the parents who delight in embarrassing their respective offspring.

Eric Sykes and Dora Bryan are wonderful, the pair have some terrific one liners, but it's Thora Hird who steals the show as Dolly's caustic tongued mother.

Favourite line has to be the one about icing a cake, Anita's hairstyle making her look like Fatima Whitbread was also incredibly funny.

Classic, 9/10.

Is this the best of the best?

It's always dangerous to revisit things you think of fondly. "Dinnerladies" is more than rewarding another time around. This particular episode showcases everything that is best about the series and of course the writing and the writer. It's no surprise that the cast struggle to deadpan outrageously funny lines, always teetering on the cusp between vulgarity/none p-c/cringe-making. But the incomparable Victoria Wood manages it every time in this episode.

And then there is the Pantheon of older British comedy and acting - I had to look them all up, but my God they must've done some persuading to have achieved all these cameos. Totally, absolutely, brilliant all-round.
