I've always liked DVD flashbacks and this episode is a particularly good one. Rob & Laura tell how they almost got divorced in the first months of their marriage--it shows that Rob & Laura had their share of rocky times. The flashback begins in Anchor, Texas--great name. They escape to a hotel in Mexico--to find an air-conditioned lobby and a charming desk clerk who says he's so close to the border, that he's not always sure which language he's speaking--(as he talks, he asks Rob & Laura 'what's this?' and Rob says 'English'.) There's a great mariachi trio with a sultry seductress, Rob's army buddies, a Mexican lawyer played by Bernie (Siegfried) Kopell of 'Get Smart'fame. Whenever the Dick Van Show did a flashback, the sets were never too elaborate, but the good writing made good sets unnecessary.

Rob and Laura get divorced.

Early on in the episode, Buddy and Sally find a Mexican divorce among Rob and Laura's papers. What follows is a flashback scene. It's set shortly after their wedding. Rob has been stationed at Anchor, Texas...a town only a few miles from the Mexican border*. Rob suggests the pair of them go into Mexico for a 3 day pass, as there's not much to do in Anchor and Rob's friends won't give them any peace and quiet.
Once in Diablo, Mexico, they find a cute little motel with an air conditioned lobby...but not the rooms. A bit later, Rob's friends show up! And a combination of the heat, Rob's friends and a few other little things get them arguing...and a Mexican guy running a quickie divorce kiosk assumes they are divorcing (after all, that's apparently the only reason Americans usually go there)...and writes up the papers...papers which were fortunately never filed.
This is a decent episode...not great but bad.
*Anchor, Texas is actually about five hours from the border by car...not 8 miles like in the show.
