Great episode
hekshuis8 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is just wonderful !! It is my favorite one. You can feel the pain Catharine is in losing her mother when she was a child and the doubt about her relationship with Vincent. She wants to share her secret with her friends but she made a promise not telling anyone about the tunnels and the people who live there. She wants here life to be a happy life a "normal"life and she choose a complicated one. But in the end of this episode she must admit that her love for Vincent is everything, and she needs nothing more. Even after 20 years this series Beauty and the Beast is still fascinating,Linda and Ron are great actors.

This is real life - The forbidden love
Kaleko21 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode touched on "real life" issues that would exist if there was a relationship like this one.

Catherine becomes depressed, it being triggered by her mother's death. She sinks into despair over the impossibility of her and Vincent being able to have a normal life.

This episode was just wonderfully done.

I was actually blown away with the very real way they portrayed Catherine's despair. The way her work was distracted at work and had to take time off. The way in which watching a piano piece made her cry. Everything she said seemed to really hit home. Somebody truly was able to portray real human emotion and the real way someone would react in such a situation as this.

In the show, she is always so happy to be in love with him, but it always seemed to me that she couldn't be happy being apart, and this episode really expressed the exact issues I thought they should be having.

This is just my opinion, and of course they couldn't do this because they had to keep the show going, but I really think they should either 1. Have Catherine move down there, and just go there after work as if she lives there, or 2. Have Vincent admit himself to the public and live up on the top world with Catherine. It would be a hard life but I think one of them should make the sacrifice. It's just not worth it otherwise.

By the way, did they really kiss at the end? It was hard to tell.

But yeah the acting was superb. If anyone has had experienced "forbidden love" they should really be able to identify with this episode. Very moving and very realistic, despite the unrealistic situation (She is dating a lion!)

Whoever wrote this was at the pinnacle of their craft
ballouvince21 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine living C and V's situation. This is exactly how it should go. Aside from how correct other reviewers, here, were, (the two read, before this), the two had both the fantasy and the reality, without going out of bounds. They mind melded that kiss. They didn't kiss. But they did. And each knew that the other was real and loved the other, so they knew the fantasy wasn't unavailable, like most fantasies. So that made it come true and remain a fantasy at the same time. This writer of this episode achieved the impossible. How do you work your way around the forbidden, and achieve the impact, without partaking of the forbidden? The author of this episode answered that question. That author is gifted and brought out the best in two fine actors. Perhaps in this era of streaming, there need be no more episodes after this. But this was written before that era, so.. Perhaps, leave them, wanting.. And it would be enough.

What's with the Terminator chick's whiny voice?
imdb-252889 June 2023
Was she dubbed? What's her face, the one who laughably plays the "beauty" (LOL!) Why is she so high pitched?? UGH! This episode is downright unwatchable. My ears! I'm at the therapist scene and I had to quit. I just can't. She goes from District Attorney's office to being whiny, refusing to go to work, calling in sick? Oh but she had enough energy to get off her bum and go have a luncheon with a friend!

Despicable writing, idiotic show, moronic characters. The only good thing is the music, but even that is overkill: the melodies are nice but they are overplayed! Give it a rest with the violins already! Not even in 1987 were they so overbearing. And they're too loud. Between that noise, the clingy clangs of the pipes and now her idiot voice, I'm throwing in the towel with this dumb show! 1/10 this is worthless!
