Maybe the funniest BJ episode ever.
fentress1 April 2020
I can't believe the review I see listed from "daveilee". I must respectfully beg to differ. I thought this was one of the more entertaining episodes I've seen. The main reason to watch it: the guest character Foxy, Betty's visiting cousin, played by actress Cassie Yates. This gal is a hoot! She's a happy-go-lucky girl who rarely stops talking, and you never know what's coming out of her mouth next. Great character. The actress definitely brought something more to it than was in the script.

At one point in the story when Betty and Foxy are being chased by a couple of bad guys, they very resourcefully get out of it with a trick that made me laugh out loud! Not too believable, but it sure was entertaining. I won't spoil it.

Now I will grant you that plot event - and a couple of others - are quite unrealistic. But look, this is 1970's prime time TV. You don't watch it for its sophistication. You watch it for comfort viewing. And for those of us of a certain age, it's sweetly nostalgic.

Some trivia: I notice from the credits that John Carter, the actor who usually plays Lieutenant Biddle, is behind the camera this time. He's the director. Also interesting to see Tom Bower as one of the bad guys, who later went on to the role of Dr. Curt Willard, Mary Ellen's husband in the Waltons.

The title of this episode refers to a plot point that ironically was barely alluded to in the episode, and which was quite superfluous in my opinion. You'll see what I mean.

Those are forgivable flaws. Watch this episode. You'll have a good time.

Hit and Miss

There are some fun moments in this episode, but it suffers from silliness and implausibility. It's just one implausibility after another. And it is annoying and grating at times, partly because of the character Foxy and partly because of the amateurish writing.

Most of Buddy Ebsen's scenes are in the office and he looks tired and bored. I can't really blame him he was getting quite old by then so I understand that.

There is a chase scene with Betty driving her Ford Pinto which is kind of amusing. That was probably the highlight of the episode because of the history of Ford Pintos. If that was all she could afford Barnaby should have given her a raise!

As I said before

Warning: Spoilers
Like I said before don't let the reviews turn you away. You should always see for yourself.

This episode was not as bad as the reviews say. I enjoyed it and I also enjoyed the character that everyone seems to hate "Foxy". The episode kept me wanting to more and I wouldn't mind seeing the character return again.

The only thing I didn't really like was when the guys entered Foxy room while she was asleep and went through her closet looking for a certain type of shoe. That scene was kind of fake. Other than that the show kept me interested. Originally I wanted to give it a 9/10 but after seeing all the hate it got I had to give it a 10/10. Watch it for yourself. Hopefully you enjoy it how I did.

BETTY AND COUSIN FOXEY?
tcchelsey26 April 2024
Lots of bad reviews about this episode, but let the record show that Robert Lenski, a top tv writer, who also wrote for MANNIX and CANNON, put it together. There had to be something more to this.

Obviously it's a dark comedy, and something the series had done before, also with guest star Cassie Yates. The series featured stories in the past, all about Betty's friends and family members in a jam. I think what Lenski did was switch gears, put more comedy into it, and let it fly. Also Cassie Yates was quite popular on tv at the time, that why I gave it 9 Stars.

She plays cousin Foxey Dolan -- related to Betty, NOT Barnaby -- stopping by for a visit and attempts to hook Betty up with a blind date? However clever, the "nice guy" she happened to meet is on the run from some desperadoes. In a way, its also a take off on the ROCKFORD FILES (to a degree) and some of the same oddball conflicts between Jim and Angel.

Did you catch it?

Watch whose driving Betty's Pinto in the chase scene. Clearly, it's a man with a wig, pretending to be Betty. Looks like it was done in one take, and that had to be a gag scene, which underlines everything.

James Luisi, a Quinn Martin regular, plays Carl, and right at home with this type of material. This was also one of two episodes directed by John Carter, who plays Lt. Biddle, and he does a fairly good job with the cast, at least it moves. If you're a Cassie Yates fan, she later guest starred many times on DYNASTY as Sarah Curtis, and had a long career in tv.

Either you like it or don't, but you have to admit Cassie is a far "different" client.

SEASON 7 EPISODE 21 remastered color/CBS. 2018 release.

Probably the worst episode they made
eac-0257214 April 2022
I've never seen this episode until just now, and I am assuming that they took it out of the rotation because it's just so bad. Watch it once and you'll never want to see it again. The production , plot, and acting are horrendous. Simply awful. I did not have a good time watching this episode at all.

I agree with the person who hated this one!
planktonrules4 August 2021
While I did not appreciate a two and a half sentence review, I agreed with the sentiments of the reviewer who hated this episode and thought it suffered from poor writing and terrible acting. This is pretty much how I felt and I couldn't wait for it to end...or the character 'Foxey' to become a murder victim!

When the episode begins, Foxey lands at the Hollywood airport to visit her cousin, Betty. It's likely the first thing you'll notice about Foxey is that she talks non-stop and is more annoying than a migraine! Well, it's obvious she annoyed the crap out of the guy she was sitting next to on the plane but he pretends to like her so he can hide a key inside the sole of Foxey's VERY thin soled shoes. Now HOW she could walk even a foot or two with this key under the sole is beyond me...it would have been like having a large pebble in your shoe! The remainder of the episode consists of bad people trying to find her to retrieve that key. Sadly, this is their first concern...not killing Foxey!! Yes, she's THAT annoying.

In addition to Foxey being a character straight from the pit of hell, the show suffers from the worst cliche the show used (or, should I say OVERUSED). Through the course of the series, Betty must have had friends or family members in peril several dozen times! Now having this happen once or twice could be believed....but several times every season? This just shows very lazy writing and a certain amount of contempt for the audience. Now I know it wouldn't have been so obvious during the initial run of the show, as the most you could see were an episode a week as they aired. Now, you can binge on the series...and that's when this awful trope becomes more obvious and more annoying.

Overall, a terrible episode as it annoys from start to finish and features a character almost as annoying as the godawful Starlight Sisters from season 5. As for the Starlights, they managed to be worse simply because they were featured in TWO episodes. Oh, and by the way,.... Cassie Yates played not only Foxey but one of the Starlight Sisters!!! Surely, there should be some sort of punishment for having done this!! Now I don't completely blame Yates....she was just getting paid to act...though in the four episodes in which she appeared, the HIGHEST rated ones earned 3s from me and the other two 1s. But the writers...uggh!! They are the real culprits here! A rare episode that is so annoying I cannot actually believe I kept watching it!

How bad was this episode? How awful was the "Foxey" character?
jfoslyn14 April 2022
So bad and so awful that I yearned to be watching "Alice", starring Linda Lavin, and actually had butterflies at the notion of experiencing that blonde waitress shouting out, "Kiss My Grits!!!" again and again and again......

Awful
zombiemockingbird1 August 2023
I agree with everyone else, this was one of the worst episodes ever. The story itself could have been good (reminded me of "Foul Play") but it was horribly executed. That and the writers have gone to the "friends/family in peril" well way too many times.

The character of Foxey Dolan (which is a stupid name to begin with) played by Cassie Yates, was the most obnoxiously annoying character ever created. I assume she was supposed to be cute and quirky; but she wasn't. I was honestly hoping the bad guys would shoot her and shut her up. Even Betty acted like a goop in this one. Nothing about this was funny or entertaining. I'm sure I lost brain cells watching this garbage.

Foxey Dolan must die!
kchiefs128 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
You know the episode sucks when you are rooting for the criminals. Cassie Yates(Foxey) must have been sleeping with someone on the show for her to keep reappearing on the show. Her character had to be the most irritating character ever created for this show. I can't believe I sat through the whole episode. The show had a good premise but tried to be too funny. The car chase was for laughs with no suspense involved. Betty(Lee Meriwether) was so stupid in this episode. The criminals were clowns chasing them through the woods. I kept hoping the bad guys would shoot them all. No wonder Buddy Ebsen didn't want to appear in this episode.
