Painful to Watch
Hitchcoc10 January 2020
Andy gets the flu and gives in to Goober who insists on taking over. While in bed, there is an endless onslaught from Aunt Bee (over protecting him and almost killing him), Goober (who can't let one thing go unreported, and Emmett (who insists on putting up a reading lamp). Meanwhile, Goober goes nuts, arresting people on petty things and writing traffic tickets. There's more, so watch.

Memorable late series entry

Warning: Spoilers
Technically this ep is uneven to previous series established facts. Andy had gotten sick as a child -- this was referred to earlier in the show in the black and white eps. In this one he is spoken of as if he has never ever been ill before.

This ep had many fine moments all belonging to the character of Goober. He is brilliant as a substitute lawman while Andy is stuck home bedridden with bad flu. Goober is tough and powerful and totally believable ( plus immensely memorable) as a lawman. The only thing he was great as a big city type-lawman for like Raleigh not a small town like Mayberry ( where does he the law enforcement bit for the second time).

"Just one chicken sandwich!"

One of season 8's best episodes. Produces some huge laughs. Goober is very creepy as the deputy. Poor Elmo (Vince Barnett) literally gets pushed & shoved around by imbecile power hungry Goober. Goober has the nerve to send his regards to wife Martha. The scene with everyone by Andy's bed is one of TAGS best. Goober actually crawls under the bed to get to the other side. The car crashes setting Andy off was a funny bit. Master mechanic Goober now is a body & fender man up all night banging out the dents. One non-stop funny scene after another. A treat to see Asa (Charles Thompson) as Doc Roberts. Opie makes a pest of himself sportng his signature green & orange shirt.

GOOBER IS SUCH AN IDIOT!
JSGal20 July 2021
With Andy sick, he foolishly allows Goober, the village idiot, to be in charge of Mayberry law enforcement. Needless to say, chaos ensued! Andy was constantly disturbed while attempting to get the rest the doctor ordered with Goober, Emmet, and Howard barging into his room arguing and Aunt Bee constantly bugging him adjusting covers on Andy's bed and forcing him to drink liquids and eat! The best part of the episode was at the end when Andy learns that Goober, Emmet, and Howard all came down with colds! Such a far fetched episode.
