It's kind of odd seeing this episode. For one thing, its in color and both Malcolm (Bernard Fox) and Ernest T. Bass (Howard Morris) were both primarily in the black and white episodes of the first five seasons. In fact, I believe this was Malcolm's final appearance on the show and I think Ernest T. would only make one more appearance before he too left the series until the Mayberry reunion movie in the 1980's.
A bit of life is drained out of this by the absence of Don Knotts and the substitution of Jack Burns as Howard, as is the curious idea to shoot several outdoor scenes inside on a obvious sound stage. But despite this, its still fun to see Andy try and negotiate a cease fire and stop the battle before its begun.
