Who knew that the Sheriff of Nottingham had a brother. His brother Montfitchet is a tax collector with Sorel as his assistant who eyes up taking over from him.
Meanwhile Mark (Bill Owen) is a petty thief who has stolen a piglet but is apprehended by Montfitchet. Mark attacks him and makes his getaway. Later Sorel kills Montfitchet which Mark witnesses.
With the tax collector gone, the villagers fete Mark as a local hero. Something he takes advantage of. Unfortunately the Sheriff of Nottingham is in vengeful mood believing that a villager attacked and killed his brother.
Robin Hood tries to protect Mark but the villagers are now in danger. Mark needs to come clean about who the real killer is.
This is a more humorous story especially after Mark stops some nun in Sherwood forest.
