• Woman : [looking out of her open window with Malloy and Reed as she explains why she called the police concerning a neighboring house]  Well, the hammering stopped at midnight. Darnedest racket you ever heard. Naturally I had the window closed, and so I didn't hear the moaning until I got up this morning and opened the window again.

  Officer Pete Malloy : Well, we'll check it out.

  Woman : Oh, there's something funny going on over there, all that crashing and banging, and now this.

  Officer Jim Reed : Well, we might want to talk to you a little later.
