Never Act With Small Children

It's W.K.L. Dickson himself, with his wife and small daughter, feeding the pigeons on St. Mark's Square in Venice. This was produced while he was traveling around Europe, setting up exchanges and getting some filming done. As the man who, arguably, invented the apparatus that was the basis of the entire movie industry.... oh, heck. She's run off again. I'll just stand here looking stupid. Maybe she'll come back before she falls into a canal. Smile for the camera, dear.

Such was the workaday life of a man who made so much possible and so much money. Even today, it makes you pity the poor producer. He's trying to get this film in the can before it costs another twenty megabucks, while the star is going on about something or other and he has to keep smiling. Smile for the camera, Mr. Dickson. Here she comes, running ba....no, she's run off again. We're out of film, you say?
