Interesting Short Film
kingsofstream9 July 2002
After three more or less serious parts of "Bürgerwehr", the 4th part finally is for real! The whole piece is a satyr - digitally shot, and it really looks gorgeous! Combining thrilling shots with the gorgeous music of composer RAINER KÜHN (I), Orlowsky tells a thrilling story of five farmer kids being p****d off by society. They take the law in their own hands and punish even the smallest crimes. This, of course results in injustice. The Bürgerwehr (vigilants) steals a drug delivery from ODIN KEIL (WILHELM HAGENA), a powerful druglord from Russia. The following night, the vigilants "try" the drugs and end up in surreal, violent visions. The next day, Keil arrives in the small town the whole setting is located at. He takes one of the Bürgerwehr-members for hostage, intending to exchange his hostage for the stolen cocain. The exchange takes place but the deal is an ambush... I like the straight storytelling of Orlowsky's - everything is uncompromising and kind of fresh - especially compared with the german kind of film. Even though this film's budget must have been really low, there's nothing in it, I'd criticize. I'm really looking forward to this director's first feature film!
