I agree with the other user when he says that this movie is slow. And it can be boring for many people. I understand that perfectly. But I like this film. I find it faithful to Jean Claude Izzo's three novels from which this feature is inspired. Three books in only film is not so easy. But the plot is quite effective and adequate to the novels'atmosphere. In Marseille, of course. The big city in south of France where all crooks, corrupted politicians, gangsters, petty thugs, homeless, foreigners from Middle East and Africa meet.
It's the tale of friendship and love that continue in spite of the years. Many flashbacks, much sadness. Painful story, but so beautiful. So dark. A downbeat movie, for sure. It's not a blockbuster, and the director's will have never wanted it this way. You can bet on that.
A good french film noir.
