this was the very first canada vignettes short that the national film board produced for t.v. what is it about? do you remember the m. jackson video black or white, the last part or another video called cry? the two had actors faces change into someone else, well this short is the same yet they use animation.this short predates those videos by at least ten years.it's not one of my favorite nfb shorts but you can try it out for yourself.p.s. watch the baby's eyes they follow you.

Canada Vignettes: Faces is fine abstract animation from the National Film Board of Canada

Just watched this on the Saturday Morning Blog as linked to the National Film Board of Canada site. It's basically a series of line drawings of various men's and women's faces on white background all dissolving together while some flute music is playing as the score. Each face flows naturally to the next with no digital enhancements unlike what happened in the live-action Michael Jackson video from 1991 called "Black and White". That's all that happens but I was enthralled that someone, namely Paul Bochner, would actually make a very brief vignette with all these different human heads, one after another, and spend so much time for what seemed to be only a minute of film. So on that note, I highly recommend Canada Vignettes: Faces.

Warning: Spoilers
Canada Vignettes are a group of short films done by the National Film Board of Canada: Some of those shorts were animated and each one of them made a very interesting depiction of different aspects from the culture and history of Canada.

This animated short shows the variety of people who live in Canada, using a visual style similar to another Canada Vignette, called "The Maple Leaf" which I liked a lot.

Like the "The Maple Leaf", the idea from this Vignette is very simple, but very well executed, being beautifully made and pleasant to watch.

A nice little animation which doesn't disappoint.
