Bare Bones
refinedsugar6 April 2024
Three sex scenes - two with McClure - within the first 20 mins leave no doubt about what kind of movie 'Bare Deception' is. A fact not gonna be lost on the people who choose to watch it, but the erotic thriller - entire T&A genre - has always been a hit or miss affair even at it's peak. If all you crave is female nudity then this title will do the job, but forget about a decent story, characters here.

Julia (Tane McClure) and her producer boyfriend Christian (Daniel Anderson) launch a racy radio talk show in LA looking to establish itself, gain ratings, attract sponsors. Of course as it turns out, Christian is cheating on her responding to the women who call in looking for sexy times. When the first match turns up dead the question becomes is it a random killer or is someone from the show involved?

The concept used here isn't a new one and that's fine. It can work if they're willing to treat it serious and build a decent mystery. That doesn't seem to be the focus though and everything is extremely rushed. Within a day of the first victim both the police and media are already all over the case connecting it to the radio show. Plus the killer only strikes out this once so there's not even any real suspense or tension. A low budget film thru and thru the cast is small so the list of suspects is pretty narrow and ultimately doesn't even matter.

'Bare Deception' isn't a golden example of what this genre or plot device can do at it's best. A solid title will titillate with a story that is somewhat interesting. What's on display here is dull with one note characters and no atmosphere as the whodunit element right up until the end is a joke. Tane and a few other ladies supply some heat, but that element alone can't elevate this flick into something better.

Erotic Mystery Thriller
FloatingOpera720 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Bare Deception (2000): Tane McClure, Daniel Anderson, Brad Bartram, Bruce Lurie, Regina Russell, Angela Grant, Michelle Von Flotow, Stella Porter, Lisa Throw, David Dutch Schultz, John McCafferty, Dona Luisa Guinan, Nenna Quiroz......Director Eric Gibson, Rafe M. Portillo...Screenplay...Steve Martel.

Bare Deception is one of many softcore erotic films which attempt to present itself as a plot-centered, character-driven, somewhat mainstream film, but in the end is an adult film that is mostly shown on late night cable channels like Cinemax, The Movie Channel or Showtime. This one, from around 2000, stars adult film stars Tane Mclure, Daniel Anderson, Brad Bartram and Regina Russell who specialize in softcore erotica of the Skinemax kind and are in fact regulars on it. In this film, Julia Collins (Mclure)is a radio show hostess who hails from New York City and brings her highly-rated radio show to Los Angeles. She is living with her boyfriend/producer, Christian (Anderson). After a while, her show begins to lose ratings and Christian tires of her and repeatedly cheats on her behind her back, mostly with phone-in callers who seek a date or fling. Daniel Anderson is a skilled actor as he has portrayed both good guy roles and roles like this one in which he is a sleazy, self-interested womanizer having sex left and right with any consentual female. Brad Bartram is in the role of the "good guy" here as Andy a fellow worker on the show. When some of the women who have called the show end up mysteriously murdered, police detective Paul (Bruce Lurie) and other investigators begin to look for clues, ask questions and seek out the murderer. This kind of film does not rely on high production values or A-list actors (these actors are adult film stars and actors who don't have sex scenes but have dialogue scenes) but there is still a fan base for this type of film has IMDb reviews clearly demonstrate. This film was shot in Los Angeles and the hilly streets around Silver Lake/Los Feliz/Hollywood Hills area. Although the writing is good and some dialogue scenes show character - Julia's crisis and tenacity, hoping that her show will make it in LA, Christian's materialistic bent, cynicism and overall sleaziness- the script suffers from one major fault. The plot wears thin after a while and the writer/writers did not bother to build an effective resolution at the end. By the end of any good mystery film, we have an idea of who the culprit is but this film does not offer us a glimpse of the killer nor really gives us any strong clues. Ultimately, it all falls apart in the end as the killer's identity is never revealed. So if you are looking for a good movie with erotic elements, rent movies like Basic Instinct or Basic Instinct 2, Wild Orchild, or any of the more quality softcore erotic films but not this one. This film has two versions. The VHS version is edited and the sex scenes are cut too short, possibly because of the R rating and because the additional scenes are strongly sexual. The version seen on TV (Cinemax) is possibly longer and no hold bars. Still, don't expect hardcore sex. It's simulated softcore stuff which can still be very steamy. Coincidentally, the music for this film, a mix of sexy jazz and eerie melodies, is from Herman Beeftink who also made music for other Skinemax flicks and series like "Hotel Erotica". An OK film if you like this sort of stuff but the plot needed more work.

Tane Mc Clure at her hottest form!
insomniac_rod11 February 2007
Sure, the plot is predictable and we've seen it before (Talk Sex for example), OK, so the movie gets boring at some points, but damn, Tane McClure has never looked this good before. She's the ultimate sexy mature blonde in the soft core sex business.

I don't know what she did to herself but she's in her sexiest form; the pink lipstick she wears through the film makes her look foxier than ever. Also, her body is perfect. Those breasts, her legs.

Anyways, the first sex scene comes immediately after the opening credits and features a sexy Mc Clure with her partner. Then the unfaithful man goes on with another blonde girl, then Mc Clure repeats in her hottest sex scene in the movie. Oh, but the movie gets better and longer sex scenes.

If you are a fan of Tane, this is the movie you should watch. Not as good as "Sexual Roulette" but still one of Tane's best.

Probably Tane McClure's best film
augustian24 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This review may contain spoilers. In this film Julia Collins' (Tane McClure) radio dating phone-in show is losing listeners. Unbeknown to her, her sleazy partner Christian Moss (David Anderson) is picking up the phone-in women and having sex with them. When one of them turns up dead, the finger of suspicion turns on Christian who still carries on in his cheating ways. The murder has benefits for Julia's radio show though and it becomes the talk of the town. The question is, can the killer be caught before he strikes again? There is little character development and the plot can best be described as lazy. Even the obligatory false trails seem to be lacking in credibility. When Christian watches two women getting it on, they think it so creepy that they call the police. Watching two women getting it on is creepy? What planet have they been living on? The police claim that there is nothing to go on without doing much investigating. To be candid though, anyone watching this film only watches it for the naked flesh.

On this score, this film delivers the goods. Tane McClure and David Anderson have some really hot sex scenes, both with each other and with other cast members. Tane's performance is probably the best she has given in this respect. It is a pity that cute looking Natalie (Angela Grant) does not have more screen time but the other actresses more than compensate. Nenna Quiroz and Stella Porter have two sex scenes, the second with David Anderson. Michelle von Flotow also has a sex scene with David.

This is one of the better films in the erotic thriller genre. The thrills, the plot and characters may be lacking but it delivers the sexiness in spades.

If you are Tane McClure Fan you will love this film.
LegendaryFilms16 May 2002
I could have sworn this movie was on Cinemax every night for more than 3 months. After I got past Bare Deceptions weak excuse/plot for a B-movie I actually started to like it. Tane McClure plays a ratings grabbing Radio Talk-show host that creates a scandalous radio dating service. Of course the usual sex and murder ensues with abundance in this made for T.V. erotic thriller. But, if you are a Tane McClure fan you will not only love the way she looks in this one, but try as you might, especially if you have watched Bare Deception as much as I have, your going to like this film. At least you will late at night.

One of the poorer movies of this genre I've seen....D+
Smooth B19 June 2000
I really couldn't follow the story all that well, because it seemed bounce all over the place. It's yet another one in the "erotic thriller" genre that we all know so well. Tane McClure (as the talk show host) and Michelle von Flotow (as the phone call screener) give this flick the babes it needs to succeed in the sex scene department.

This movie would be better if the wafer-thin plot had a point, made sense, or didn't go all over the place.

If you are a Tane McClure fan this is a must see.
raymondehayes26 April 2001
This is Tane McClure's best film by far. The Sex is Super hot and she has never looked better. Do not worry about the movie plot or the story line the whole reason to watch this film is Tane McClure. This film starts off with a bang right from the first scene. and only gets better after that. The company that made this film is the best softcore producers out there right now Hollydream production. Anything you see by them get it you will not be disappointed.
