Captain Paulsen heads for the mysterious Island of birds of paradise: New Guinea. The shipping company assigned trainee board doctor Hanna Lauterberg, who proves cocky, ambitious and ill-considered, yet steps up when they get kidnapped by a pirate desperate to have his son treated for an alas fatal gun wound. The Müller couple heads in the barely explored jungle, where inventor Dirk Müller drags his wife Erika, seeking a miracle plant cure for hair loss, like his own, which seems nonexistent with Papua natives, unsafe despite a local guide. Beauty clinic chief Dieter Holzmann boarded "MS Deutschland" with much younger beloved Tatjana Blume, but finds among the passengers his youth ex Ines Krüger, who is still attracted but passes her adult son Jojo as her lover, causing plenty of misunderstandings.

As Captain Paulsen's "MS Deutschland" approaches the UAE, a wounded falcon lands aboard and is nursed in Beatrice's cabin. It's doting owner, an oil sheikh, invites her to return it and get a taste of his fairy tale life style. The ship's new pastry cook Benny Munk's arrival stuns Maja Schneider, her flirtatious former Hamburger hotel partner, whom she refuses to admit still having a crush on, yet is obviously jealous of his present fling, her sleepwalking complicates it all further. Beatrice's nun friend Amelie is shocked to find aboard her ex Peter Grohmer, an ex-con master thief, and private detective Martin Steinacker, assigned by the insurance company to have him arrested and recuperate his never found diamond loot, which he indeed plans to fence. Klaus Brenner and son Alexander, a rising concert pianist he manages, are aboard as he won a concert tour around the Arabian peninsula. Alexander feels stifled by his bothersome father, is irresistibly attracted to deck fitness coach Inka and sneakily joins her on a shore excursion, complete with desert quad tumble.
