A topic way too advanced for its time
zzmale19 December 2003
which ultimately brought its box office failure.

Back in the 1920's, China was still in the firm gird of the traditional Confucian teachings in which women are discriminated against. The topic on spousal relationship that is geared toward equal status lacks the response of the general audience and not surprisingly, resulting in poor response to this film.
