The girl in boy's clothing
Petey-1021 November 2006
Heikki Vuori (Pentti Siimes) is going to the army, but has a traffic accident before that.So his sister Hertta (Elina Pohjanpää) decides to go to the army instead, pretending to be her brother. We all know women couldn't go in the army then. Now she only has to hide her sex in the middle of all those men.Easier said than done.Tyttö lähtee kasarmiin (1956) is an Aarne Tarkas military farce.Elina Pohjanpää does brilliant work as the woman as a man.Her husband for many decades, Pentti Siimes is terrific as her brother.Leo Jokela is great as always playing Cpl. Jokela.Pentti Irjala does his work as MSgt. Muttila brilliantly.Reino Valkama is great as Medical Maj.Kara.Teija Sopanen plays Marja and Spede Pasanen is Pvt.Kookas.They're both very good.Ville-Veikko Salminen is seen there as a private.Juhani Kumpulainen also makes a visit in the movie.Matti Ranin plays Capt.Esko Teräs.This brilliant actor turns 80 today and he has a great career behind.I congratulate him.At the moment I'm reading his autobiography. It's a great book about a great man and you should all read it if you haven't done so yet. This movie has plenty of funny situations. Some would say this movie has dated a lot in 50 years.I would say it hasn't dated a bit.
