behind the masks
Vincentiu23 September 2013
like each film by Malvina Urșianu, it is special. not for the ambiguous nuances of story - it can be a propaganda tool or testimony about the fall of a social class - but for the delicacy behind the pieces of a common story. its root is the director memories about a fundamental political act in recent Romanian history. the characters are only masks of a vision about the balance between past and future. about present as fiction. a nostalgic refuge and the storm of a new order. a form of protest and resignation. August 23 , 1944 was subject of many films in Communist period as way to legitimize the regime. but this movie remains different. for impressive cast, for the performances as seductive icebergs, for the end. and for the flavor of a resistance form - so subtle, so precise against political regime commands.
