While the re-opening of the restaurant (after Karel and Dirkje have left and Gilles and Irma have joined the team) is imminent, Irma decides a sad Lucien needs a new man in his life and places an ad in the paper.
Dirkje is head over heels in love, much to Frits' chagrin. Meanwhile, a father wants to book for twelve men tomorrow. Completely ignoring the fact he's a man of the Scripture, Irma wants to, well, book the father.
Gilles showers an ever more nervous Lucien with gifts and asks him to move in with him. Gilles has also arranged for a new help in the kitchen. Her name is Patricia. Frits can't wait to meet her.
Lucien's mother visits; she has a funeral to go to in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, Irma experiences hot flashes, but seems to be oblivious to the fact she's entering the menopause.
In an effort to educate the group about wine, Gilles has invited a viticulturist for an evening of wine tasting. Frits, however, is more interested in the man's book with labels of expensive wines.
While Gilles has plans to invite a group of his rich friends over for dinner, Lucien feels a New Year's resolution should be about helping other people.
