This TV movie is adapted from a Pierre Lesou novel, the author of "Le Doulos", "Un Condé", "L'Ardoise", "Hail Mafia", and many other stories about friendship among hoods, relationships always complex and lost in a sort of abstraction.
This tale takes place in the 50's Paris, the underworld of the prostitutes and their "protectors", gangs who fight each other. A real war, violent, brutal, from where absolutely no one will survive. The dialogue scene between Nicolas Silberg and Hélène Surgères, near the end, is so painful and moving, cruel and unforgettable. One of the most terrific dialogue between a man and a woman, summarizing their lives together.
A heart gripping story, dark, sad, but never nasty, about honor, friendship, revenge. The picture allows a sort of poetry in the way of filming.
The final two minutes are unforgettable. Harrowing.
