Sex & Nudity

  • The least anyone wears is a bikini (on the beach). A few other scenes show the protagonist wearing a nightshirt buttoned up the middle (so a thin line of skin is visible from belly button to neck).
  • A man and a female mannequin are in a building. When the woman enters, the mannequin is lying naked beside the man, who then puts two towels over the plastic figure's "exposed" parts.
  • A woman and man lying on a bed. She kisses his face to the sound of instruments being tuned. Fully clothed, she is lying on top of him. The scene (like much of the film) is played as a joke, and there is nothing explicit. Minute 59:00-1:01:15.
  • Some black-and-white shots of a woman in a shirt and pants walking down a city street and men turning to look at her.

Violence & Gore

  • Any eyelid is seen being sewn open (22:00-22:20). Then brief shots (no more than 10 seconds, usually 3-5) of surgery being done on the eye with a surgical knife: 33:00, 32:30 (just wiping the blood around the eye), 32:45 (just wiping), 38:35, twice between 42:13-42:40, and 1:02:00. (All time stamps are according to the restored version on FilmIn).
  • The man and woman see a woman on lying in the sand. They say she is dead. Very brief and not violent.
  • When the woman tells a story about a lion (and a hunter), we see several stuffed lion heads (or the same one several times) on the wall. The scene ends at 27:02.
  • A woman slaps another woman. Later a man slaps his girlfriend. Neither carries any meaning (like the surrealist tone of the whole film).

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some drinking (or glasses and bottles that look like alcohol) throughout. Smoking in the opening scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A billboard on fire. People running while the voice on the music screams lyrics. 38:35 to 40:35. The fire is repeated 42:13-42:40, interspersed with the eye and the woman walking down the street. And finally at minute 54:00 for ten seconds (when the woman says "A fire").
  • The whole film has a disjointed surrealist tone, but mostly played for comedy.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The last minutes of the film, a woman on a hospital bed is rolled into a room of doctors who prep her for surgery. At minute 1:13:00 it becomes clear that this is eye surgery, and the doctor smears something red on the skin around her eye (so that it looks like blood). He takes the surgical knife, but the frame pauses when he brings it close to her eye (not touching). After some seconds the film fades to black and 58 seconds of jazz music.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man whose skin and clothes are dark blue. It is a humorous pun, but it can be shocking to suddenly see a bearded blue man staring at you.
