Kay stuns her parents with the news that she is to be engaged to be married to Buckley. Stanley is less than happy with the announcement as he believes his little girl is to young.
The groom Buckley's mother Doris gives the couple a three karat stone for a ring. Stanley agrees to prove the setting but the purchase becomes more complicated then he anticipated.
Stanley has only one duty at the dinner, to give a memorable and loving speech. After he memorizes it Stanley arrives at the meal unaware of what lays in store for him.
In the excitement over the wedding preparations Stanley is sure that his birthday has been forgotten. His desire for a golf cart as a present appears unlikely but the family has actually planned a surprise party.
