autobiography of a mayer of Vienna
cynthiahost11 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this I was naive about it.The plot is about the last days of a well known the mayor of Vienna in 1910. He works to try to improve his city. The mayor is portrayed by Rudolph Forester, who was known to play older characters ,government and military officials, in such film like , The white horse inn,1952 and The Kaiser Jagger. There's one scene where he is making a statement in the congress and it causes cheers in one group and it angers another. You see out side of the government building having an argument against what he was saying . One group are communist and another group are Christan democrats. You see him when he has children from school or an orphanage his dinner guest when he is telling stories about himself. He lets the children play with his medallion. They end up breaking it. Hienrich George shows up after they are gone and they have an argument. There was a younger actor who was in it ,who plays a son of one of the political associates of the mayor .I thought it was Wolf Aulbach Retty. I got confused. I thought he was in it . His mother was . Rose Aulbach Retty. It was a young O.W. fisher with is hair darkened. There a big ball later at his place to honor him. He later starts to get ill.Well not knowing German except for a few words and guessing as I was watching the, I had to research more about this Mayor of Vienna. He was anti semitic. That was the propaganda of the film. The real Mayor was anti semitic. If I wasn't slow about learning other languages , I could have understand the movie better
