Some Tedium but Good Solid Laughs Were Had
18 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This was filmed near the beginning of the era where many "nice" comedians became hateful with their comedy, (even Aziz got mean) so it was refreshing to see Dana keep being Dana. He portrayed honesty and a good vibe overall.

Some bits were a little stale or just didn't click for me. Then other times there a well-placed impression or a joke that had me laughing out loud.

I found his lengthy Scarface bit boring (but the impression was solid), but I could have listened to an hour (or more!) of Dana having Paul McCartney explain modern technology and behaviors to heaven-resident Lennon.

There was a millennial bit that he used an impromptu segue which I found interesting. Did he bail on a bit or come back to it later in exchange for a spontaneous segue?

His Gates jokes were hilarious and I want to see The Church Lady in a Roast Battle. (His story about poor-sport entitled Gates is absolutely true btw)

Unfortunately, he did not end with a bang; I think this was due to the wording of his final joke. Dana did not seem aware that, in many people's minds, if you make a joke that Lennon didn't see Michael Jackson in Heaven, many in the audience are going to think Dana means MJ is in Hell and guilty of child molestation. The audience got confused because that's not Dana's style. By the time Dana reveals it is a skin color joke, he already lost the audience with that joke.

Still, it was worth watching, especially if you enjoy his impressions. If you don't like his impressions at all, then you probably won't want to watch this as there are only a few good jokes that are character/impression-free.
