Review of The Cuckoo

The Cuckoo (2024)

Gets right under the skin...
13 April 2024
One of the best psychodramas I've seen in a long time.

The dynamics of family disintegration after adultery ; the tentative efforts to resurrect trust ; the struggle to nurture an adolescent daughter going through the angry agonies of loneliness and identity confusion : these problems alone might destroy any family, even without the complication of their financial precariousness and the angst caused by recent relocation to a strange new town.

But not enough !

Add to this explosive mix the sudden introduction of a lodger. And not just any lodger, but the very incarnation of Judas - a woman of such slime, charm and cunning that the family soon faces meltdown.

Brilliant. Horrific. Plausibly flesh-creeping. Pathos. All made real by great casting and genius actors.
