A Caribbean Mystery
12 April 2024
Sent on a recuperative holiday to the tropical paradise of Barbados, Miss Marple is finding it rather a dull place where nothing seems to occur. But it soon turns out to be a Garden of Eden where a dangerous serpent lurks.

When Major Palgrave, the hotel bore, is found dead in the doorway of his cottage, everyone except Miss Marple accepts that he has died of natural causes. During the postmortem examination, it is found that the major was indeed poisoned. Victoria Johnson is also found murdered with a kitchen knife in her chest.

A Caribbean Mystery is one of my favourite Miss Marple books and I have seen a few adaptations, which were good, but this one starring Joan Hickson is the best one, capturing the essence of the written words quite well. It's well-acted, has a foreboding atmosphere, grand scenery and Joan Hickson is excellent as the sleuthing spinster with a knitting needle. Donald Pleasence is excellent as the grumpy man who takes a liking to her and exchange thoughts about the case.
