interesting study of an interesting life.

The history of earth has been locked in the glaciers of earth for centuries, maybe thousands of years. In some places, these mountains and glaciers are homes of the gods of the locals; the drama of losing the glaciers, but the scientists want to save those memories of the gods, by drilling into the glaciers, and saving those "memories" before they disappear. The story of lonnie thompson, phd. Scientist, who studies what's in the glaciers from thousands of years back. His story, told by himself, his wife, friends, and co-workers. This includes the studies of willi dansgaard, from denmark, and john mercer, at ohio state. At first, they didn't think anything useful could be found at places other than the north and south poles of the earth. But thompson proved them wrong. Some beautiful ice cap features at quelccaya... like artwork. But actually storing all that history! And he went back year after year, measuring the snow and ice each time. Thompson became an expert on climatology, and drilling ice cores in the glaciers around the world. See more details at lonnie thompson's entry in wikipedia dot org. Interesting stuff. Some beautiful scenery as well! Directed by danny omalley, alex rivest.
