Review of Denial

Denial (1990)
10/10
Underrated love story

Warning: Spoilers
I have always been moved by this film because I believe it captures the pain of regret from youthful mistakes in love.

Robin Wright holds this pain for years and when she finally breaks, it feels so real and raw. She is an incredible actress. The scene in the kitchen when she "breaks" upsets me every time I watch it. It's beautifully sad.

Jason Patric is also wonderful as the brooding boyfriend who desires so much more from her than she is capable of giving at this young time in her life.

It's only later that she embodies the qualities he needed and this realization is what crushes her. The calmness she lacked as a free and wild spirit in her youth, the peacefulness. But, alas it's too late so she must endure the loss and accept the reality of her current situation.
