RETURN OF THE DEADLY CONNORS SISTERS
23 February 2024
To appreciate this episode, you had to have remembered this campy tale when it premiered.

This was an exercise in dark comedy, and it brought in a lot of viewers... so why not bring the eccentric and homicidal Connors sisters back? It was a series first.

Also there was some very good acting on the part of Cassie Yates as Ruby and Mary Ann Chinn as Pearl, not so talented singers from the south who came to Hollywood to become stars. Their career seemed to be failing, so they turned to robbery and murder to keep their "dream" alive. Remember, it all makes sense, if you're insane, and that's the point.

The catch here is somehow, someway Ruby and Pearl manage to escape prison(?) and are on the loose. How they got out of a maximum security prison is a head-scratcher, but again this is campy stuff, where there are no rules. Barnaby, who put them away, is back on the case, but his plans change because he actually has to save their lives. A neat little twist in all the insanity.

Good support from Ray Dantan playing Nick. Dantan always made a smooth villain, if not a character you couldn't trust. Written by Gerald Sanford, who wrote 20 additional episodes for the series, also long time writer for CHIPS.

You often wonder what Buddy Ebsen's take was on this script. But it did keep the show going.

Partly filmed at Woodland Hills, CA. Dedicated to all us long time Barnaby fans from the very beginning. SEASON 5 EPISODE 22 remastered color CBS dvd box set.
