Bogart, cobb, mostel. Some pretty fancy names in this historical fiction period piece. Syria, in the 1920s. France has moved into syria, but the syrians refuse to be controlled. Harry (bogart) has always found ways to make money in these troubled times. So now the colonel is cracking down on the profiteers. And to make matters worse, the colonel's girlfriend starts flirting with harry! Can harry negotiate his way out of this situation, either with the colonel, or with the syrian rebels? Life is cheap, money talks. Will anyone get out of this alive? Directed by curis bernhardt. I've seen many of his films, without really knowing it; he worked with the biggies...davis, crawford, hayworth, macmurray. Bernhardt didn't win an oscar, but made some great films. Based on the book by joseph kessel. He has had many films made from his various works.
