BAWAAL:-not nitesh's best, but another great addition to his filmography
29 July 2023
Bawaal is an action romantic drama film directed by nitesh tiwari.

This film does not trivialize the WW2, thats for certain. What it does is draw a parallel between the tragedy and the tragic relationship, sometimes successfully and sometimes not.

Varun dhawan and jahnvi kapoor share a good chemistry. I was surprised to see janhvi improve so much. She expresses the emotions of a sad wife yearning for her husband's acceptance beautifully. Varun dhawan, has always been a good actor. He again does a great job in this film. Manij pahwa and prateek pachori lend good support. The gujarati running gag, becomes forced after a time.

The writing brings sensitivity towards the problem of epilepsy through the transformation of ajay's character arc. He first see her epileptic on his wedding day, gets embarrased and becimes hostile. He comes full circle in auschwitz, when he accepts her with her problems. But, it also casualizes the realization, in the sense that you dont feel the sincerity or emotions when he accepts her. It just happens. The screenplay, too looses the audiences' attention for short spans of time.

The music in this film is breathtaking to be honest. 'Tumhe kitna pyaar karte' is such a 90's track for the romantics. Its soulful and very meaningful. 'Dil se dil tak' is also another wonderful number. 'Dilon ki yeh doriyan' is a wonderful peppy track. The music is incorporated tactfully into the screenplay. The dialogues are good. The cinwematography is very good. During the action scenes, the slow mo sequences accentuate the impact of the horror.

Its a great film, and does not trivialize the horror of WW2.
