The 1970s were fantastic years for comedy in both Great Britain and the United States. Sadly, younger viewers simply won't understand much of it. This is mainly due to the references to people and issues of that time but also because one needs to be well-rounded to understand much of the humor. For those interested in sampling their comedy I would suggest going to YouTube and finding the skit "The Plumstead Ladies". In it the boys join a female choir, dressed as women and interspersing gossip along with the songs. It is seven minutes of superb comedy flawlessly performed by all. Ronnie Barker's wig and glasses are priceless!
