Not what I expected it to be

Cate Blanchett is without a doubt one of the finest actresses of the last 2 decades (at least), and her performance in this film does nothing to tarnish that. However,, it's not an enjoyable or entertaining film. Matter of fact,, it drags,, a lot.

Blanchett portrays Lydia Tar, a famous orchestral conductor, who is said to be one of the greatest, until she finds her world undone when her past mistakes come back to haunt her.

The pace of the movie is slow,, and I don't mean a slow burn. There's a buildup, but it feels like almost 2.5 hrs of spiral that end with about 10 mins or so coming completely out of left field (basically a depressing fall from grace).

The editing is also choppy. To the point where it's hard to follow at times.

As I said, Blanchett's performance is great (no big surprise there), as well as the performances of a great supporting cast (Mark Strong is the only one I'm familiar enough with to recognize). However,, it doesn't make the movie worth enduring (unless you're just looking to study actors acting).

I thought the directors previous movie, Little Children, was home run. Just amazing. So, as I mentioned, I expected more out of this one. Disappointing to say the least.
