Well it's a prequel, so arguably not a heir, but let's not get caught up in semantics.
I enjoyed both Discovery and Picard, but they both missed that true Star Trek feel and the formula was in keeping with other tv show doing the rounds these days. Entirely subjective I know, but I love the Star Treks of old, where discovering weird, wonderful and downright bizarre worlds and peoples was all part of the craic. Strange New Worlds delivers; no convoluted plot lines, it's fun, well-written, with some great characters. And, may I add, wonderfully cast; Anson Mount IS Pike!
Really love love and love some more that they've gone for the classic intro and music, Captain Pike reads those legendary lines beautifully.
