5/10
shadow on the wall

When the best reason to see a film is the performance of Nancy Reagan (nee Davis) as a shrink, of all things, (she and her astrologer must have shared a good laugh over that one) then I recommend you just say no to it. Everyone else is either miscast (i.e. Zack Scott, with his smarmy mustache, is never convincing as a good guy and comedienne Ann Sothern is not credible as a Gloria Grahame type) or on the "meh" side (i.e. Gigi Perreau, a poor man's Margaret O'Brien, and Kristine Miller, a pallid bad girl). Throw in a not very suspenseful story, with a dumb ladies hat as the maguffin, and plodding direction by a Brit named Jackson (big sag in the middle of the film between Miller's offing and Gigi's "You killed my mother!") and you can see why it rates a solid C.

PS...Speaking of dodgy mustaches, did Tom Hellmore ever play anything other than a complete and utter rotter?
