Review of Tabu

Tabu (1988)
3/10
Tedious Drama

A widow and her daughter live on a farm with lots and lots of hay which must be constantly raked and placed in a barn.

Luckily, the pair have a charitable man living nearby who is more than willing to help the lovely ladies.

The mother is played by a woman of thirty-five and the daughter is twenty-two but for artistic purposes she is a teenager in love with the neighbor, Krystisan.

The grieving widow falls for Krystian and so does her horny daughter. The man resists the girl for the first half of the film but like Adam in the Garden of Eden is eventually overtaken by one of the seven deadly sins, lust.

Some Catholic symbolism and philosophy are added, which is not surprising given that this is a Polish movie where Pope John Paul II remains a rock star.

The cast is fine but the story dragged on and ended badly.
