The film covers an investigation about the kidnapping of a rich man during the Argentine dictatorship of the 70s/80s. It shows two judicial clerks tasked with researching the crime; but because the victim is from a powerful family, the junta dispatches military personnel to investigate as well.
The movie is not a race between the criminals and the investigators, but between those that want to investigate the crime doing detective work and those for whom investigation is torturing the suspects.
The torture scene is probably the lowest point of the movie, and fails to convey the true horror of this monstrosity. But the counterpoint between the two forms of solving crime is the focus of the movie, and it works rather well.
