Not So Sweet Sixteen is Kind of Sweet
13 June 2023
I didn't love Sixteen Candles back in 1984 to the level that some folks did, but remembered it as kind of cute. With the Passing of Hughes I'm revisiting some of his work and this was next up. Sure, some of the material has dated all that well, unfortunately. But that needn't take away from the solid, and sweet basic story, and of course the endlessly enjoyable score/soundtrack. Molly Ringwald does a good job here and I really have to give make credit to Anthony Michael Hall, he's just wonderful here and adds a lot of charm to the proceedings. Sure, under the circumstances going on here it's unlikely that the Schoeffling character would pursue Samantha to the degree that he does, but I through my disbelief out the window and just went with it and am very happy that I'm able to do that. Sixteen Candles is worth checking out if you're curious.
