The Children (1980)

It really is a good start

It really is a good start as we see the nuclear-power installation, if it is one at all, and as the two guys (yes only two!) close up and go off for a beer rather than going for another check of the facility. Then we see the school bus and the children happily singing, so we are certainly sure that it is going to be fun (for us). Unfortunately after about half an hour it is not so good. The mist appears, the children disappear and knowing of the nuclear disaster that was just averted at the Three Mile Island incident, it should have been good, but because it is such a low budget and has poor dialogue, it disappeared. The thing is that one thing is wonderful and that is the children, who don't have to speak, and are fantastic just holding out their arms and their parents hug them back, not noticing that they have black nails, that is the sign that they will have to be burned to death. So, pretty terrible acting but it is rather wonderfully charming.
