The cast were great. The writing was good until the middle of the third season. If they finished the series then, I would have rated it 9 (maybe even 10).
One of the best thing of the series is that it had a good mix up of humor with seriousness. The dialogues were pretty good.
But at one point, I think they tried to be politically correct and lose the main focus. Then they removed one of the main characters almost suddenly though they did manage a good story of that. Also usually the replacement character isn't good enough, but in this case it was pretty good.
Of all the characters, I think you would love almost all except maybe Maggie and Abby sometimes.
