A boneless story
19 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Have you seen those fireworks that go up with a whistling sound but never burst into a colourful spectacle and you feel disappointed? This movie feels exactly like that. It builds up a sense of suspense and mystery in a slow but bearable pace but then it leads you to nothing. No answers to all the questions that rise in your mind. What exactly was the protagonist trying to prove regarding his father? What deaths they were talking about? If that investigation part was not core of the story and was added just to trigger the paranoia and anxiety of the protagonist that he got from his mother as a hereditary trait, why did the director make the audience feel it to be the backbone of the story? When you realise that the investigation was not going to get any conclusive results because that was never to be the core of the story, as an audience, you feel cheated. Then again, why were the townspeople so rude? If they considered Pol (the protagonist's father) to be responsible for the deaths in the town, why vent it out after so many years on a girl who had nothing to do with it? And, if the movie was supposed to be about the psychological condition of the protagonist, why make us feel it not to be so until the end? And just by his father's intervention and his saving him from supposed drowning, the protagonist got cured? Just like that? Well, the story is so unconvincing and you feel cheated.
